OVERTIME LIMITS
Overtime is limited to 16 hours, per employee (for most areas) within each 4-week scheduling period.
LPN SALARY
The salary range for LPN's is $13.17 to $19.38 per hour, based on experience. Shift differential for evenings and nights is $1.00/hr. In addition, the following bonuses apply for full-time.

PAID TIME OFF
Full-time RNs employees in classifications of CN1 or CN2 accrue PTO time as follows:

Full-time employees NP, CNS or Nurse Midwife classifications will accrue PTO time of 24 hours per month.
HOLIDAY
There are seven holidays: Christmas Day, New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and the day after Thanksgiving.
HEALTH INSURANCE
An employee working on a regular appointment of at least 20 hours is eligible for full health insurance benefits on the first day of employment. After one year of service, regular employees with at least a 50% appointment are eligible for dental benefits. Retirement health benefits are available depending on years of service. TUITION REFUND
After six months of satisfactory employment, RNs are eligible to apply for tuition reimbursement for job related education courses. Ph.D. course work is not reimbursed. Full time employees may be reimbursed 75% cost of in-state tuition for University of Michigan classes. For non-UM classes reimbursement is 75% or up to $1,280/term. Reimbursement applies to 4 credit hours/term. Part-time employees working at least 20 hours/week may receive reimbursement on a pro-rated basis.
RETIREMENT PLAN - Tax Deferred Annuity - Immediate Vesting
If the employees contributes 5% of his/her salary to the retirement annuity plan, UM contributes an additional 10% of the salary. Choices of retirement annuity plan options will be presented during orientation. The annuity accrued belongs to the employee and is theirs if they leave UM or relocate.

The Work/Life Resource Center offers resources for child care, elder/dependent care and any other assistance an employee may need in maintaining a healthy balance between work and personal responsibilities.
ORIENTATION
Orientation begins with a 6-day central nurse specialized program followed by special classes for the following areas: Adult Medical Surgical, Adult Critical Care, Pediatric Critical Care and General Critical Care. The intensive care units and step down units combine their individualized orientations with a comprehensive centralized Critical Care Orientation program. Unit-based orientation is a preceptor experience that focuses on the unique needs of each staff member.
PROBATIONARY PERIOD
RNs are on probation for the first six months of employment.
LENGTH OF EMPLOYMENT
A one year commitment is requested. Longer commitments may be requested for certain programs such as internships. Employees desiring short-term or intermittent employment may inquire about temporary employment.

Each employee is eligible to purchase a parking permit on the first day of employment. In order to purchase a permit, new employees should bring their driver’s license plus cash or check to purchase their permit.

LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS (www.michigan.gov/bhser)
Upon
employment, each RN applicant must have
a license to practice in the State of Michigan.
Graduate nurses awaiting state board results
and licensure will be able to practice as Graduate
Nurses, with limited guidelines for practice
under the supervision of a RN.
HOURS OF WORK
Work shifts vary according to unit need and may include 8hr, 12 hr and 8/12 combinations. Schedules will be discussed at the time of the interview with the Nurse Manager.
TEMPORARY EMPLOYMENT
The Central Staffing Resource Department provides opportunities for experienced RNs to work as a supplemental resource in both regular and temporary roles. No fringe benefits are available to temporary employees. Temporary nurses do not pay union dues.

Non-supervisory RNs are covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the University of Michigan and the Professional Nurse Council of the Michigan Nurses Association. The payment of dues or a service fee will be discussed at the employment interview.
